Crowley, a name synonymous with controversy, mysticism, and the occult, has long been branded as "The Most Wicked Man in the World." This moniker, however, may not encapsulate the full essence of a man who was as enigmatic as he was influential. Was Crowley truly a malevolent figure, or could he have been a double agent, covertly working in service of a greater truth?
Born in 1875 to a strict Protestant family in Leamington Spa, England, Alistair Crowley's early life was marked by intense religious fervor. His mother, a devout Christian, referred to him as "The Beast," a title Crowley embraced and amplified by adopting the number 666. This early exposure to religious dogma may have fueled his later rebellion against conventional morality and his attraction to the occult.
Crowley’s notoriety largely stems from his unapologetic embrace of taboo subjects and his unorthodox lifestyle. The British press, always eager for sensational stories, branded him as “The Beast” and “The Wickedest Man in the World.” His open discussions of sex, drugs, and magic, combined with his disdain for conventional morality, made him a perfect target for scandal. But was this reputation deserved, or was it a convenient label for a man who defied societal norms?
Crowley demonstrated an early attraction to all things occult. He made tremendous strides in his early years to assimilate various practices and network with other magicians and mystics. In 1904, during a visit to Cairo, Crowley penned one of his most important literary works, "The Book of the Law" (Liber AL vel Legis). This text, which he claimed to have received from a supernatural entity named Aiwass, laid the foundation for his religious philosophy, Thelema.
Crowley continually employed inversions to encrypt his truest intent. "The Book of Lies" is a perfect example of this. His approach as a "new Prophet" heralding the arrival of a new age called the Aeon of Horus, associated with deities such as Ra-Hoor-Khuit, was a self-appointed title. The immense tongue-in-cheek quality of his pronouncements, the actual titles assigned, and the grandiose and inflated prose he used to describe himself are almost Oscar Wilde-like- on-crack.
There is an intriguing hypothesis that Crowley’s controversial persona was, in part, a deliberate construction. Some argue that Crowley, with his deep knowledge of symbolism and human psychology, was playing a double game. By adopting the role of the villain, he could explore and expose the hypocrisy and limitations of contemporary society.
Crowley’s involvement with intelligence agencies, particularly during World War I and II, adds another layer to this theory. It is documented that Crowley worked for the British intelligence services, using his esoteric knowledge and connections within the occult community for espionage purposes. This dual role raises the question: was Crowley’s public persona a smokescreen for his true mission?
Crowley was extremely charismatic and managed to directly touch and hold court with some of the most powerful people of the 20th century. He was well-studied in the works of John Dee and Edward Kelley and fully literate in the language and practice of Enochian magick. His belief system and comprehension of the cycles associated with the spiritual and physical world were profound and superior to most spiritual contemporaries of his time.
Crowley’s philosophical contributions, particularly through Thelema, emphasize the pursuit of one’s true will. This concept, though often misunderstood, is rooted in the idea of aligning with one's true nature and purpose. In this sense, Crowley’s work can be seen as a guide to self-discovery and personal liberation, rather than a path to moral decay.
Crowley understood the importance and function of polarity, which permits the individual human portion of consciousness and physical being while remaining tethered fully and originating from the One Supreme Creator Consciousness. He willingly assumed, identified, and aligned himself as a counterpoint to Yeshua/Jesus Christ—similar to Lucifer or the Nephilim fallen angels. The creation of this counterpoint invoked his greatest spell, which continues unfolding to the present moment and beyond.
To create a successful spell, one must ritualize a polarity or spectrum of intent. The more expansive, detailed, and sensory-evocative, the more powerful the spell. In "The Book of the Law," he declares the only law is, "Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law. Love is the law, love under will." At first glance, considering the buttoned-up mentality of the early 20th century, an initial interpretation would likely dismiss this as hedonistic, shallow, and even blasphemous. However, Yeshua declared with the invocation of the Golden Rule, "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you."
With the addition of "in love," Crowley added all the power associated with empathy, mercy, grace, equal give and take, respect, and the greatest energy of unconditional love. This two-part formula mirrors the utterly simple divine plan of design which identifies the true significance of the Trinity: two nodes of polarity held in tension form a third node of balance between the two. The Trinity is thus one in three, three in one, bound together, yet the third node of energetic balance leads the triad with the force of mutability and individual free will. The Bible's portrayal of the Trinity as Father, Son, and Holy Ghost is flawed. It should be Divine Masculine + Divine Feminine = Child (male or female). Crowley understood this.
Crowley was well-acquainted with a historical perspective that understands the multi-millennial influence of the Babylonian Empire, the development of modern banking, credit systems, and currency. He was likely knowledgeable about the subversion of global culture by the influence of the Babylonian Priest Class, whose dogma and obsession with the lower vibrations of the physical world influenced every subsequent culture globally to this day. These priests perfected the practice of black magick over the millennia that followed.
The dawn of the industrial revolution coincided with an as-yet-public awareness of some catastrophe which ended a sort of tenuous balance with forces of truth, expansion, and love. As a result, the rampant takedown of a global connection with truth on multiple levels of physicality and spirit allowed the "dark ones" to erect a matrix prison of epic proportions. Already, the dark had all but buried the true history of mankind in constant warfare that would immediately destroy—or hide—the wisdom of conquered cultures. The Council of Nicaea and following orders performed rewrites, changes, additions, and omissions to the canon of the Holy Bible, which were much more aligned with actions of self-interest and control and in direct opposition to the gospel of The Christ, which celebrated individual divine sovereignty of soul that dwells inside every soulful human being.
Crowley knew this, and in service to the greater good of humankind, set about a plan to entrap the dark ones and their minions dedicated to the lowest, demonic, self-interest, pride, and the most heinous unspeakable acts of aggression and evil. During the decades, he lured them onto his bandwagon of debauchery and seeming shared focus, when all the while, he labored in service to the greater divine plan.
His prognostications regarding the return of the Whore of Babylon riding the back of the Beast again appear demonic and evil at first glance. Yet, when one considers the entire scope of the components offered in this article, his real intent was this: He was encouraging every individual to explore the individual ego which dwells inside. Through hedonistic, revolutionary social, religious, and political flame fanning, he invoked a cultural process that would break the chains of perceived identity and delusion imposed over the millennia by the dark ones.
He particularly understood the oppresion of the divine feminine and the dire consequences of an imbalance that supported ever growing examples of hate, war, and anger that destroy on planetary magnitudes of scale. He employed the most potent and sublime inversion of intent to capture and neutralize the dark spells of control wielded by grotesque self interest by simply opening doors of access. The decadence, narcissism, and flat dimensionality of lesser minds which characterize the elite, were apt charms. The elite gleefully plunged headlong into the quicksand pits of their own making only to languish among the decay of their haphazard sentiment and disdain for those they consider "less than" and expendable.
Crowley championed the return of the harlot, the used, discarded and disrepected archetype of the Divine Mother - that most spurned and mistreated fractal energy of Lillith. His magick cleared the way for the return of feminine divine balance - not as a feminist who envisions and appropriates her power through the lens of masculinity, but as the Warrior Mother who carries within her the divine womb of creation. Eons of subjugation, mistreatment fortify her with laserlike focus, the ferocity of Sekhmet, and a will that no force of delusion can withstand. She announces the end of the slaughter of innocents. She places herself between the maniacal forces of the masculine which have brought mankind to the edge of the abyss, and with the slightest effort, ROARS NO MORE!
The Whore of Babylon heralds the rightful return of the Divine feminine. Her alchemical transformation from harlot to Sacred Mother emerges from the divine architecture of Creator. Her position of power which defines the Zero point of balance as the compression node of the Divine Trinity. The release of the masculine node which gives rise to physicality finds equilibrium with the feminine. As a result, immense portals of divine illumination, of Golden Rule Practice, of ever greater cycles of giving and receiving fully open to creation and free will practice of new/expanding generations. Finally, the distortion delusion born from a unbalanced masculine obsession with physicality will finally harmonize.
The employment of fear fruits - above all else - to control, co opt, and command will transmute into divine masculine characteristics which encompass protection, individuation, and the active function. Along with the feminine return to equilibrium, the zero portal of highest potential will open to all humanity and provide access to levels of consciousness unimaginable as eternal soul of man finds ease of passage back and forth between higher dimensions of existence free from the limitation of a 3D prison matrix. The Beast of 666 symbolizes this apocalypse of revelation which lifts the veil from the eyes of the deceived and reveals the truth buried beneath the chicanery and inversion knots conjured by an ancient, evil sorcery.
As a follower of Christ, I believe the dogma and doctrines imposed by the Church and following Protestant incarnations often misalign with the most fundamental wisdom brought to the World by Christ. The most aligned spiritual practice which descended directly from those associated with Yeshua follows a Gnostic pedigree. In the late first millennia AD, the Cathars, perhaps the largest sect of Gnosticism at the time, were literally slaughtered by the Vatican led church as condemned heretics. Members of the Order of the Knights Templar—an order of Gnosticism—were hunted individually, mercilessly, imprisoned, tortured, and murdered by proclamation of the Church with support from the French crown, Phillip the 4th.
Without question, immense higher vibrations of Golden Rule practice have immerged from Roman Catholicism and all religous practice. This is one of the great miracles created by Source in which the seeds of expansion, life, an the higher vibration of Love will always find fertile ground. Yet, the slightest diversion from the zero balance can yield tremedous distortions over epics of time. Discernment is of key importance at this present moment. Jesus says, "You will know the Tree by the Fruit it bares." not "You will judge the tree by the fruit it bares." If the fruit is of Fear, scarcity, lack, enmity, envy, jealousy, hate, rage, intolerance, exclusivity, censorship, limitation it is of lower vibration no matter which way it is sliced. The fruits of the higher vibration are based in mercy, grace, forgiveness, inclusion, tolerance, reconciliation, peace, joy, bliss, inclusion, and that most powerful force of unconditional love. If you are unsure a person or situation in your life, use a reductive approach to analyze the situation. Break it down into smaller parts which are more easily digested and considered. You will know the intent in a jif!
Currently, it is all too easy to group entire demographics of human beings into assigned stereotypes and judgement. This is a key feature of the dark magick which continues to rail against the dawn. "Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God ; trust also in me. In my Father's house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you." The gospel of John 14 records this affirmation made by Christ and points in the direction of my next post!
While Alistair Crowley remains a polarizing figure, to some, he will always be the embodiment of wickedness; to others, he is a misunderstood visionary who dared to challenge the status quo. Final judgement of his deeds is firmly entrenched within Crowley himself in conversation with Creator as it is for ALL soulful beings. "Judge not, less ye be judged." The truth, as with many complex historical figures, likely lies somewhere in the middle - in Zero. Crowley’s life and work invite us to look beyond the surface and consider the possibility that the most wicked man in the world might have been, in fact, a double agent in service of a deeper, more profound truth.
The examples of historical "fact" which are actually inversions of specific intent are as numerous as the sand on the beach. Consider placing this measuring stick against historical perspectives commonly held as Truth. If the contemporary past remembers a noun as something completely evil, heinous, with distorted intent, hate, and death as focus, the opposite is, likely, the truth. Conversely, historical present-day nouns which are considered truthful, caring, and full of love, are actually blood-sucking narcissistic thoughtforms with bottomless appetites.
As mentioned above, the following post will discuss this theme as it overlays the Holy Bible. Whatever the intent of Crowley and with respect to his legacy of contribution and personage, may the energy of his invocations ignite a continuing inferno which illuminates Truth, sparks sincere development of personal identity, and welcomes an age of maximum liberty, freewill, and individuality. May each soul give and recieve in ever greater cycles of support, encouragement, and unconditional love which support this principle implicitly and explicitly.
